Brief: To photograph multiple Girlguiding units at an activity centre weekend
Commissioned by: Girlguiding UK
In 2018 I was commissioned to direct photography for Girlguiding UK. This initially involved editing a 25,000 image archive down to 1,000 images, identifying image shortfalls, writing the charity’s photographic style guidelines and finally shooting a number of events.
This was one of those events, with a number of different Girlguiding units enjoying the outdoor activities at a PGL centre. The shoot involved racing around the site to catch specific units (which we had permission to photograph) at specific activities at specific times…and to create a series of shots that concentrated on natural portraits, relationship shots and moments. The key was to avoid action shots – but rather focus on the girl’s enjoyment, their reactions and bonds created by taking part in the activities.
