Brief: To capture a selection of images documenting neonatal care for premature babies in various dedicated hospitals in London, Bristol and Birmingham
Commissioned by: Bliss (London HQ)
I first starting photographing for Bliss in 2010. The charity has always been at the forefront of improving care for and expanding awareness of premature babies. I was privileged to gain access to intensely private lives of parents in hospital environments and to document their babies’ lives: parents travelling long distances to spend a little time caring for their tiny babies, Bliss nurses pioneering Kangaroo Care, premature twins & even triplets and the quiet down-time bathed in the ultraviolet light of incubators. I also met some incredible medical staff who perform such extraordinary work and often have to deal with heart-breaking situations.
